The demise of the relationship between Kraft and Starbucks was threatening to make my Tassimo redundant. I have tried many coffees from Gevalia and Maxwell House but none of them delivered that bold, full flavored hit that I got from my Starbucks favorites - Kitamu and Columbia. So I thought my Tassimo was on death row whilst I use up my stockpile of Starbucks, but the Carte Noir Kenya might just give it a stay of execution. This is a smooth, bold coffee/crema. It lacks the bite of Kitamu but is enjoyable nonetheless.It brews a little on the cool side if you want to add creamer, and only delivers a (near)4oz serving. However, two of these t-discs works out about the same cost as the Starbucks discs at Amazon prices. The inconvenience is the additional brewing time and hassle of using two discs. Overall, I am happy to have found at least one coffee that might delay the almost inevitable purchase of a Keurig, but it alone is not enough - one of the joys of these one cup machines is the variety on offer and Kraft need to find some quality Starbucks replacements soon.

The Carte Noir Kenya is smooth and flavorful, but not really robust. I'd call it a 'medium' roast. Stronger and richer than any sort of breakfast blend, but not as deeply favored as a french roast. And it lacks the bite of an espresso. It is listed as having a 'fruity' flavor which I couldn't imagine until I tried it, but yes, it's a bit fruity, not smoky like an Italian roast. For a coffee novice, it's tasty and easy to drink and does not need a lot of syrup etc to smother it. For a coffee fanatic it may feel too light.It brews 120 ml (4 oz) so it's perfect for a latte or cappucino, if you are looking for something with a touch less of a bite than a traditional espresso. If I am out of my favorite t-discs (the Kenco Caffe Crema - which you currently have to buy from tassimo directly) for my morning cup, then this performs well as a second choice. I prefer to use two discs in the morning, with a little bit of soy milk (I'm vegan). In the afternoon one disc gives a nice amount.Another reviewer compared this to the Maestro Lorenzo Crema. I mostly agree, though I find the ML Crema to have a deeper, creamier, less fruity taste than this CN Kenya.BOTTOM LINE: Smooth, flavorful, fairly rich... but not the darkest or richest out there. Not robust. Note it brews 4 oz of coffee.

I am from Spain and I enjoy strong coffee. This was very good. Still, I will by the nespresso if you really want a perfect coffee. However, if you have a tassimo and want to try some strong, nice coffee to wake up after lunch, you will be happy with this
