There is a common opinion, among people I've talked to, that dark roast (espresso, French, etc.) is the aficionado's roast, as it is used in fancy drinks such as cappuccino. This CBD Nicaraguan SHG is not a dark roast. In fact, it is much the opposite - the grind comes out a medium brown, with specks of blonde. This means that it will not yield the same bitterness factor that darker roasts would, and to many people, bitterness is what defines coffee. The first time I drank this coffee, I didn't think much of it, since it didn't have that bitterness. I thought I had just done too weak a brew. From there, I continued to drink it, feeling good that it was organic fair trade, but not thinking much of the flavor.Fast forward two months, when I decided to buy an Aerobie AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker. With this device, the CBD Nicaraguan SHG became an entirely new drink. The coffee had notes of buttery sweetness (caramel, maple syrup), a hint of banana and some grain flavors (barley, oat). It was almost completely lacking bitterness, but still full of flavor. And this was without any milk, sugar, syrup, or any of that stuff - just a plain old Americano. Also, the caffeine kick was like drinking my first espresso all over again. I'm sure there are other ways to bring out the flavors of the bean, but this device was my key to unlocking its goodness.Considering the going price for good coffee these days, this is a great deal.
